Early Childhood Special Education Paraprofessional

Location: Center-based Early Childhood at Centerview Elementary in Spring Lake Park Schools, serving about 6,200 students from Blaine, Fridley, and Spring Lake Park in the northern Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. About the role

With supervision, assist licensed teaching staff in implementing a comprehensive educational program for Early Childhood programs serving students ages 3-5 with autism, developmental impairments, physical impairments, other health impairments, and behavioral disorders. Help create a classroom environment that is multicultural, gender and ability fair, developmentally appropriate, and conducive to learning and growth.

Responsibilities

• Prepare modifications and adaptations for materials used in centers and activities daily or weekly as assigned by the teacher.
• Implement and maintain school programs and services for students with disabilities.
• Collaborate effectively with a lead teacher while working independently.
• Provide personal care support to students, including toileting, dressing, and feeding.
• Meet district standards for employee performance and attendance.
• Support students with emotional or behavioral issues and assist with academic and social skills.
• Perform related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED certificate.
• Completed 90 quarter or 60 semester college credits and/or AA degree OR a passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (available through the Human Resources Office after a job offer).
• Ability to pass a pre-work physical and complete PCA training.
• Training and experience in the use of computers and other technology equipment.
• Ability to act in a leadership role and independently initiate and follow through on tasks with minimal supervision.
• Effective oral and written communication skills for working with students, families, community representatives, and school personnel.
• Ability to follow teacher’s plans and directions, work collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality.

Physical demands

• Ability to lift 40 pounds.
• Frequent bending and/or twisting.
• Potential need to physically restrain students.

Pay

$20.75–$24.20 per hour. Additional $0.75 per hour differential if the employee holds a bachelor’s degree.
