About the role

The Early Childhood Mental Health Consultant position at Harbor is based in Toledo. This role involves assessing children in childcare settings using an IECMH approach, providing social and emotional coaching and modeling to childcare centers, and offering IECMH trainings for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes & maintains a professional working relationship with partners in the community, including early childhood providers and program administrators.
  • Provides Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation (IECMH) services to childcare centers, children, families, and early education staff.
  • Offers individual and programmatic consultation to early care and education providers using evidence-based and evidence-informed mental health strategies.
  • Provides on-site coaching and modeling to early childhood staff to support positive behavior management and promote healthy social-emotional development.
  • Affirms childcare staff in developing and implementing individualized strategies to reduce challenging behaviors and improve classroom climate.
  • Serves as a liaison among families, childcare providers, and other community agencies to promote coordinated care.
  • Aids in the development, distribution, and use of educational materials related to early childhood mental health and child development.
  • Collects and enters data as required by ODMHAS into prescribed data systems.
  • Participates in Ohio Approved training on early childhood specific topics for ECMH credential.
  • Attends as scheduled and participates in supervision, team meetings, professional development, First Aid/CPR training, and serves on agency committees, as appropriate.
  • Participates in reflective supervision, including being on time and coming prepared to discuss experiences or dilemmas, maintaining an openness to feedback, developing awareness of internal response to work, exploring impact of internal beliefs on the work, allowing support, and reflecting on the supervision experience to enhance professional practice and personal growth.
  • Participates in implementation of grant funded/contract programs and maintains records in compliance with grant requirements.
  • Manages assigned caseload in an effective and efficient manner in accordance with Harbor’s policies and procedures.
  • Participates in staff meetings, team meetings, clinical meetings, mandatory training sessions, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Ensures that all services are provided in a culturally responsive, inclusive, and family-centered manner.
  • Keeps current with trends and developments related to essential job competencies.
  • Facilitates referrals to appropriate resources when indicated.
  • Completes billable/contracted clinical services as assigned.
  • When completing documentation for billable clinical services:
    • Develops and updates treatment plan and notation as appropriate.
    • Responsible for accurate and timely documentation, which may include but is not limited to activity/progress notes, treatment plans, incident report forms, other forms as necessary.
    • Completes documentation in the format appropriate and acceptable to Harbor.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Child and Family Studies, Education, or related degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Basic knowledge, experience, and demonstrated level of skill in early childhood development, early care and education, and early childhood mental health.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient and accurate in computer use, including Microsoft Word.
  • Licensure and Certification: Ohio ECMH Professional Credential once eligible. May be required to earn Ohio Certified Prevention Specialist (OCPS) certification.
  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and proof of personal auto insurance policy to be deemed insurable with Harbor’s vehicle insurance carrier.
  • CPR/First Aid and NCI/CPI Certifications required within 90 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional license in Ohio preferred (LPC, LPCC, LSW, LISW, etc.).
  • Experience in IECMH.
  • Understanding in childcare center support and appropriate curriculum and development.
  • Knowledge of Ohio Prevention systems.

Pay

The pay for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week.
