Responsibilities
- Develops written lesson plans and teaches scheduled classes; documents teaching performance objectives according to district guidelines
- Plans and implements instructional programs and ensures lesson plans align with adopted courses of study and are consistent with IEPs
- Makes teaching materials, class lists and classroom procedures readily available for substitutes
- Creates effective learning experiences for all students through instruction and use of learning materials and equipment; uses relevant technology to support instruction
- Carrries out assigned duties related to the general welfare of the students (e.g., safety precautions, self-help needs, positioning, feeding, assisting students on/off transportation vehicles, etc.) including the lifting of students and equipment
- Provides parents/families/caregivers with educational guidance including information/strategies to reinforce skills learned in school
- Identifies problems that may impede learning and/or the social integration of students; helps identify families that may need intervention services
- Facilitates the transition process for students entering or leaving the preschool program
- Implements effective pupil management by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
- Makes referrals for student assistance/intervention when a need is identified; meets mandated deadlines for required paperwork and works with team members to develop a plan
- Helps prepare and implement IEPs for students meeting eligibility requirements
- Varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles; facilitates use of critical thinking, problem solving and creativity skills
- Collaborate with other teachers to share knowledge and resources that enhance student learning
- Maintains accurate and complete records of student progress and development; updates all necessary information accurately and completely as required by law and district policies
- Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades; prepares progress reports and consults with parents as needed
- Works with supervisors and staff to eliminate unacceptable or unsafe conditions or behaviors and provides direction and training to assigned classroom assistants or student aides
- Participates in conferences, staff meetings and professional growth opportunities as directed
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education
- Valid Ohio license or permit appropriate for the assignment – Intervention Specialist Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Intensive teaching field OR the ability to obtain a supplemental license upon hire
- Previous experience working with students with developmental disabilities and/or emotional and behavioral disorders is preferred
