Early Childhood Intern- Brandywine YMCA Family Location

About the role

The Early Childhood Intern plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and wellbeing of individuals and families served by the YMCA of Delaware. They are responsible for supervising children, providing daily care, engaging children in activities, and assisting in the implementation of educational programs.

Responsibilities

• Serve under the direct supervision of an Early Childhood Assistant Teacher.
• Supervise children, classroom, and activities as assigned.
• Provide daily care including diapering, toileting, feeding, and supporting social/emotional needs.
• Encourage, engage, and support children in classroom activities.
• Implement positive behavior management techniques.
• Assist in planning, implementing, and participating in daily classroom activities.
• Observe children and document their progress and development.

Requirements

• Must be at least 16 years old (or 15 years old with specific educational qualifications).
• Must complete quality-assured training in early care & education or earn at least three college credits in child development or early childhood education.
• Must pass a physical examination and tuberculosis screening.
• Must undergo a criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• At least 15 clock hours of quality-assured training in early care & education.
• Three college or university credits from a regionally approved institution in child development or early childhood education.
• Successfully completed a physical examination and tuberculosis screening.
• Criminal history, child abuse, and adult abuse background check.
