Early Childhood Engagement Specialist (Part-Time)

About the Role

The Early Childhood Intermittent Program Specialist is part of the Engagement Department at the Indiana State Museum, working on early childhood programming and events. This role involves engaging with young visitors and their families, assisting with activity development and preparation, and collecting evaluation data. The incumbent works both offsite and within the museum's early childhood space, Firefly Landing, and galleries to interact with visitors, answer questions, and conduct daily programming.

Responsibilities

• Assist with research, development, and facilitation of early childhood programs within Firefly Landing and museum gallery spaces, including holiday programs, school programs, outreach programs, camps, classes, and daily engagement experiences.
• Enhance the visitor experience by engaging and interacting with visitors, assisting with questions and concerns, and facilitating daily programming with a focus on early childhood interaction.
• Prepare materials, set up, and clean up the early childhood space, Firefly Landing, before and after programs.
• Work with the Early Childhood Program Manager to develop and implement goals, objectives, and learning outcomes for early childhood daily engagement programs.
• Conduct informal and formal evaluations for programs within galleries, Firefly Landing, and throughout the museum for early childhood experiences.
• Support Visitor Services in providing a welcoming environment for all museum visitors.
• Provide excellent customer service to daily visitors, program participants, educators, and parents.
• Manage customer complaints, incidents, and accidents, taking the lead in emergency situations and safety issues.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of program supplies for the early childhood space, Firefly Landing.

Requirements

• Must be able to work 3 or more days during the week.
• Experience working with children and families in an informal and/or formal environment.
• Comfortable working independently and demonstrating initiative.
• Experience with hands-on, interactive program development and facilitation.
• Strong presentation, communication, and customer service skills, and a collaborative work ethic.
• Background in education, science, art, and/or customer service preferred.
• Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Pay

This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.24 but may be commensurate with education and work experience.
