Eagle’s Wing Child Care and Education Programs is looking for a passionate assistant teacher to join our infant and toddler teaching team. Eagle’s Wing is a highly diverse childcare center on the UW-Madison campus that provides early-childhood, 4K, and school-age programs for children from 6 weeks to 8 years old. We offer a high quality, child-initiated and play-based learning environment, and are known for our multicultural, international community. Our dedicated educators work in a supportive work environment, teaming with other teachers and UW student staff to role-model a multicultural, inclusive, and anti-bias approach to learning and educational environments.

About the role

Eagle’s Wing is a licensed and nationally accredited childcare center located in the University Apartments Community Center, a department within the Division of University Housing at UW-Madison. The center provides care to children both in the University Apartments community and the general public, serving a diverse population of approximately 3,000 residents, primarily graduate students, staff, post-docs, and their families, many of whom are international.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with basic technical and administrative classroom support
  • Maintains the safety and physical well-being of children in a designated classroom
  • Assists with the planning and facilitation of classroom programming and classroom coordination and organization according to established curriculums
  • Updates and organizes individualized and developmental educational plans for children
  • Documents effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to relay pertinent information and provide updates of child activities per established guidelines and regulations

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year working in full day play-based Early Childhood Education environments and completion of the Early Childhood Courses "Introduction to the Child Care Profession" and "Fundamentals of Infant and Toddler Care"
  • OR successful completion of Associate’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education

Qualifications

  • Training in High Scope, Pyramid Model, and/or Conscious Discipline (preferred)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) (preferred)
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field (preferred)

Pay

The starting hourly wage is $19.00 or higher based on qualifications.

Schedule

Primary schedule for this position is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during the center's hours of operation. Work schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer.

Additional Information

  • First-time employees must complete a physical exam (at their own cost) to provide proof of a negative TB skin test prior to the first day of employment, and again every 2–5 years.
  • This position requires an initial criminal background check (renewed every four years) and an annual background check through the WI Department of Children and Families (DCF), which may include fingerprinting.
  • Applicants must ensure their eligibility to work in the United States without employer sponsorship by the effective date of appointment.
