About You

The ideal candidate will have successful experience teaching Hebrew and Jewish Studies, designing Jewish Studies curriculum, with early childhood-aged children and their families. They should be adaptable, collaborative, proactive, personable, and warm. This educator will inspire our youngest learners, from two-year-olds through Kindergarten, by fostering a joyful connection to Jewish life, Hebrew language, traditions, holidays, values, and Israel through developmentally appropriate experiences. The ideal candidate believes that children learn best through exploration, music, storytelling, movement, art, and meaningful relationships, and is excited to partner with classroom teachers and families to create an engaging Jewish learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Hebrew and Jewish Studies to early childhood school students, including some reading and writing.
  • Work collaboratively with Jewish Studies department, and other teaching teams on initiatives around pedagogy and curriculum.
  • Introduce conversational Hebrew vocabulary, letters, prayers, and Jewish concepts in engaging and developmentally appropriate ways.
  • Prepare students for and participate in Shabbat celebrations, holiday programs, and other school-wide Jewish experiences.
  • Create and lead holiday programming as needed.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate Jewish learning throughout the curriculum.
  • Build warm, positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment that celebrates every child's unique strengths and identity.
  • Engage native speakers in weekly lunches as needed.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, parent teacher conferences and other school community events.

Qualifications

  • Fluent in Hebrew and familiarity with Hebrew pre-school songs and stories.
  • Knowledge of Jewish traditions, holidays, customs, and Reform Jewish practice.
  • Has experience and enjoys working with early childhood-aged children.
  • Supports the mission, vision, values, and commitments as outlined on our “About” website page.
  • Shows an appreciation for the craft of teaching.
  • Has excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Kind and possesses a healthy sense of humor.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and ability to take initiative and follow through on projects.
  • Possesses good judgment.
  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience.

Schedule

Working hours are generally 7:55 AM to 3:05 PM. Occasional hours may be required in the evenings. Teachers are expected to attend faculty meetings on Thursdays from 3:45 PM until 5:00 PM.

Pay

Salary range: $60,000-$90,000; Salary offers are based on our salary scale steps, which are based on years of experience and are non-negotiable due to pay equity practices. Base faculty salaries do not reflect additional compensation based on degree level and stipends.
