About the role

The Early Childhood Development Practitioner position entails the comprehensive care and instruction of preschool-aged children on a university-wide research campus. Practitioners are integral to supporting research projects and addressing specialized developmental needs, ensuring the physical, emotional, and social well-being of children.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct instruction to a group of 16 to 18 two-five year old children utilizing the approved curriculum and materials in the laboratory.
  • Model socialization and behavior skills to children in groups and individually.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe environment for all children at the Laboratory.
  • Implement preventive measures, provide first aid, medication, and treatments as necessary.
  • Adapt lessons based on children’s responses, engagement levels, and individual learning styles.
  • Convey information effectively in written/electronic form to parents and caregivers through daily progress reports, classroom observations, and other documentation using the Playground app.
  • Provide effective feedback to leadership regarding developmental progress and classroom needs, using observation and assessment data.
  • Maintain classroom inventory, ensuring materials and supplies align with curriculum needs.
  • Order supplies in a timely manner while adhering to budget guidelines and program requirements.
  • Provide instruction, supervision, and assessment for the children and University students involved.
  • Create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and stimulate learning through innovative activities and resources.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with program policies, licensing regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in community outreach and complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education, or a closely related field from an accredited university.
  • Four years of experience in an academic environment, including supervision of children, classroom management, and experience with licensing requirements in a child development laboratory/center.
  • Understanding of NC Star licensing procedures.
  • Experience in preparing for the ECERS-R assessment and evaluation of young children.
  • Familiarity with the creative curriculum, Dial 4 screenings, and Conscious Discipline techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a criminal background check qualifying letter and CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Current TB test and physical signed and dated by the physician.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency and one year of related childcare experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must adhere to all applicable childcare facility and governmental regulations at local, state, and national levels.
  • May be required to administer first aid, CPR, and medications as needed.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and exemplify professionalism at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, colleagues, and other caregivers.
  • Manage time efficiently and meticulously keep records.
  • Train, supervise, and mentor university students.

$36,000 - $43,217 FLSA Non-Exempt

Schedule

Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
