Early Childhood After Care & Assistant Teacher Peniston Campus

About the role

Waldorf School of New Orleans is seeking an After Care Teacher to provide supervision and care to children before and during the After Care Program, with additional responsibilities as a substitute teacher for Early Childhood programs as needed.

Responsibilities

• Offer supervision and care to children before and during the After Care Program
• Arrive and be ready to begin responsibilities by 12:00pm (or earlier depending on class size) Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; provide care until 5:00pm; tidy classroom after children leave until 5:15pm
• Arrive and be ready to begin responsibilities by 11:00am on Thursdays; provide care until 5:00pm; tidy classroom until 5:15pm
• Implement, with Early Childhood Faculty input, developmentally and programmatically appropriate Waldorf Curriculum for the After Care Program
• Turn off lights, flush toilets, clean up classroom, adjust thermostats, tidy kitchen, vacuum, take out trash, and lock doors
• Supervise snack time
• Greet parents as they arrive
• Direct parents to sign their child out
• Act as Substitute Teacher as needed for Early Childhood programs

Substitute teacher responsibilities

• Follow regular teacher's lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate
• Modify teaching styles to fit the learning styles of various students
• Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment
• Supervise students out of class such as in hallways and in outside play areas

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Experience working with preschool aged children
• Before/After School care experience preferred
• Agreement with WSNO Employee Handbook
• Friendly, flexible, and comfortable establishing classroom management
• Extremely reliable and dependable
• Early childhood education: 2 years (Required)
• English (Required)

Pay & schedule

• Pay: $20.00 per hour
• Schedule: Monday to Friday
• Part-Time: Up to 29 hours/week
• After Care Program hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00pm–5:00pm; Thursday from 2:00pm–5:00pm
