Early Career Software Engineer

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for an early-career Software Engineer supporting the Test Operations and Sustainment Contract at Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Arnold AFB, TN. The engineer will join the Engineering Solutions branch, contributing to cutting-edge technology development in support of the National Defense Strategy.

About the role

The successful candidate will provide software development support to the mission at AEDC through the Engineering Solutions branch, collaborating with engineers, physicists, and other software developers to meet mission requirements.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy engineering software tools as part of a small team.
• Develop new capabilities such as standalone codes or libraries for integration into existing systems.
• Maintain legacy codebases, adding new features or troubleshooting issues.
• Automate complex workflows or repetitive tasks in collaboration with engineers.
• Port locally developed and third-party software to various HPC platforms, interfacing with hardware, compilers, MPI, and queueing systems.
• Contribute to technical documentation and engineering reports.
• Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by company policy and supervisory direction.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• BS degree in software engineering or computer science from an accredited college or university.
• L07: Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.
• This posting is specifically for candidates with less than 5 years of professional experience.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret level security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
• U.S. Citizenship is required due to Air Force Security requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior internship or co-op experience, preferably at AEDC.
• Relevant work experience or college coursework in software engineering, including design, coding, configuration control, and maintenance.
• Experience with Python and related scientific and visualization libraries (SciPy, NumPy, Matplotlib, etc.).
• Experience with Linux CLI and High-Performance Computing environments.
• Practical experience with C, C++, and/or Fortran considered a plus.
• Working knowledge of object-oriented software design, automated software testing, and distributed version control systems.
• Ability to work in a dynamic environment with flexibility to accomplish mission objectives.
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
• Demonstrated proactiveness and initiative to drive results.
• Exhibits strong technical curiosity and a desire to seek understanding.
• Active Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance.

Pay

Annual salary ranges for this full-time role at Arnold AFB, TN:

• L06: $80,000 - $102,000
• L07: $93,000 - $124,000
