Early Career Lab Assistant
Role Overview: ABS Global, a Genus company, is seeking Temporary Part-time Production Lab Technicians to participate in production operations at our labs in Rio, WI and Windsor, WI. These roles focus on operating production equipment for processing cell sexing technology and are ideal for early career applicants looking to gain lab experience while attending school. Positions are hired for a 3-month period and may be extended based on work availability.
This role can satisfy work experience requirements for the Biotechnology Laboratory Technician Associate Degree program at Madison Area Technical College (minimum 192 hours) or the Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program (450 hours). Our Early Career Program Manager will assist with YA documentation standards.
Schedule
Final scheduled hours will be determined based on your availability for shifts between 6-12 hours long within the following weekend shifts:
- Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday Day Shift (5:00 AM – 5:30 PM) – $23.50/hr
- Friday, Saturday, and/or Sunday Night Shift (5:00 PM – 5:30 AM) – $26.50/hr
Additional weekday hours may be available based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Follow SOP and maintain lab documentation.
- Provide accurate, timely, and quality packaging of bovine semen in accordance with ABS standards.
- Learn ancillary processes throughout the production lab as business needs necessitate.
- Adhere to proper cleaning, sanitation, and sterilization protocols for all processing and collection equipment.
- Provide ideas for improvement in the work environment.
- Communicate issues to appropriate personnel (leads, supervisors, manager, support group).
- Perform all assigned duties based on daily production needs.
- Follow safe work procedures and report any incidents.
- Perform other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Must possess or be working toward a local High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be enrolled in and attending a local course of education (high school, GED program, technical college, or university).
- Must live locally; no relocation authorized for this role.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to lift/transfer 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Strong attention to detail and focus on maintaining the highest level of quality.
- Ability to perform basic math skills.
- Ability to utilize a computer, keyboard, and mouse for work tasks, including prolonged screen time.
- Ability to work well within a team environment.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within a production laboratory setting.
Working Conditions
- Stand for extended periods of time.
- Monitor equipment and computer for prolonged periods.
- Occasional exposure to chemicals (PPE is provided).
Pay
- Day Shift (5:00 AM – 5:30 PM): $23.50/hr
- Night Shift (5:00 PM – 5:30 AM): $26.50/hr
