WSP is seeking a full-time Early Career Civil Engineer for our South Jordan, UT office. This role involves providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects in the public and private sector, including roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform basic professional civil engineering work, including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, operating strategies, and safety considerations for end-users, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Verify site characteristics and offer basic technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
  • Generate accurate and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies, and construction surveys.
  • Complete assigned training tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
  • Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and engineering tools.
  • Commitment to upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek based on project requirements.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • Prior internship experience related to the degree of study and specific engineering discipline.
  • Active membership or participation in local professional practice organizations.
