About the Role

This opportunity involves providing local technical assistance for the design, development, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with research, design, concept development, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, bridges, water supply systems, and sewage treatment. You will generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project and ensure responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform basic professional civil engineering work, including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
  • Provide entry-level technical assistance on design requirements, operating strategies, safety, and functionality of end-users, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Assist with verifying site characteristics and provide technical support on engineering, design, and construction issues.
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and field/work site logs.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures, including location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies, surveys, and construction.
  • Complete assigned training tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience.
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with design/build processes and concepts.
  • Knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and related tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements, which may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and specific engineering discipline.
  • Active membership and/or participation in local professional practice organizations.

Pay

Expected salary range (all locations): $60,600 - $85,300. WSP USA reserves the right to adjust compensation and benefits based on education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and geographic location.
