DVMS Learning Coach

About the role

The Learning Coach provides classroom teaching assistance such as reinforcing skills, completing roll call and student counts, and administering make-up tests. Assists teachers with academic instruction and classroom activities; prepares and disseminates materials for classroom activities and assists the teacher with classroom management. Supports students individually, in small groups, or the classroom as a whole with mentoring and instruction, providing extra assistance to complete assignments, prepare for tests, and reach academic grade level or beyond.

Responsibilities

• Supports the philosophy and vision of the school system and reacts professionally to changes within the school system or facility.
• Works with teachers to find effective ways to deal with behavioral issues in the classroom and assists in setting up the classroom for special activities.
• Assists the teacher with instructional duties and leverages technology by helping prepare reports, lesson plans, student assessments, and grading papers.
• Assists students in using technology to increase their learning capacity.
• Arranges for field trips (permission slips, transportation, etc.), speakers/presenters, and related educational activities; accompanies class on field trips as required.
• Performs miscellaneous duties such as distributing materials, scheduling parent or teacher appointments, ordering supplies, scheduling tutoring, and escorting students to other areas of the school.
• Helps students understand Desert View Academy’s academic goals, pass tests or exams, and identifies weaknesses to improve performance.

Requirements

• Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
• Holds an associate’s (or higher) degree or completed two years of study (60+ credit hours) at an accredited institution of higher education or obtained a passing score on an ADE-approved assessment (Para Pro, ACT WorkKeys, or Master Teacher’s Para Educator Learning Network).

• Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Must be able to traverse the school as necessary to fulfill position needs.
• Must be able to operate a computer and other electronic devices requiring repetitive motions.
• Must be able to position yourself to assist staff and students.
• Regularly performs duties requiring repetitive motion.
• Must be able to communicate effectively (speak, hear, and observe surroundings).
• May need to transport boxes, computer equipment, or other materials.
• Primarily works indoors with exposure to fluorescent lighting and typical school environment elements; may occasionally be exposed to outdoor elements.
