DVM Student Externship - [Sumter County Animal Hospital]
Sumter County Animal is a well-established, progressive, one-doctor small animal practice in Wildwood, Florida. We provide comprehensive care including preventative care, surgery, urgent care, high-speed dentistry, cold laser therapy, in-house diagnostics, digital full-body radiology, OFA certification, acupuncture, and medical or vacation boarding. Our practice also treats small reptiles, pocket pets, and occasional wildlife, emphasizing low-stress, compassionate care to create a positive experience for patients and clients.
Located just outside The Villages Community and 45 minutes from Orlando, Wildwood offers access to theme parks, restaurants, concerts, state parks, nature trails, springs, beaches, and lakes. Sumter County is an “A”-rated school district, making it an ideal place to raise a family.
About the role
We’re looking for 1st through 4th-year veterinary students who are compassionate, team-oriented, and strong communicators. This externship provides real-world experience to enhance your education.
Responsibilities
- Gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced small animal practice.
- Assist with preventative care, surgery, urgent care, diagnostics, and other clinical services.
- Learn low-stress handling techniques and compassionate patient care.
- Work with a diverse caseload, including small mammals, reptiles, and occasional wildlife.
Qualifications
- Must be a DVM veterinary student from an AVMA-accredited institution.
