About the Role

Drives a dump truck and pup trailer combination or a side dump truck to transport aggregates from rock quarries and gravel pits to various plant locations and customer jobsites. Abides by Company Safety Program and Policies while performing duties safely. Consistent and reliable attendance is required.

Responsibilities

• Performs daily pre- and post-trip safety checks on equipment and truck to assure a safe vehicle. Documents any maintenance required per company policy and reports equipment issues to supervisor and the shop.
• Responsible for maintaining service intervals for the power unit.
• Maintains log sheets, fuel records, and other paperwork to comply with government regulations.
• Maintains a clean driving record and operates the company vehicle in a safe and courteous manner, following all traffic laws and company policies (e.g., cell phone usage, texting, no smoking).
• Reports emergency situations immediately to supervisor.
• Ensures all delivery tickets are turned in to plant personnel accurately and in a timely fashion.
• Coordinates with dispatch regarding starting times, workload, and shift ending times.
• Performs minor maintenance on the assigned vehicle, such as checking tire pressure, changing fluids and filters, and lubricating grease points.
• May be required to hook and unhook the trailer from the truck occasionally.
• Safely operates truck and trailer combination or side dump truck, including climbing in and out, manipulating tarp mechanisms, cleaning the rear of the truck and trailer, and navigating uneven ground or plant areas.
• Positions truck for loading at gravel pits or rock quarries, following instructions from pit or quarry personnel.
• Responsible for tarping and covering boxes on the truck and trailer in a safe manner.
• Drives truck to designated unloading locations, positions truck for unloading, and follows directions from plant personnel. Distinguishes between safe and unsafe unloading conditions at jobsites.
• May occasionally perform loader operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• 6 months of previous commercial truck driving experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License – Class A.
• Must meet Department of Transportation (DOT) physical requirements and carry a current physical exam card per DOT guidelines.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule during busy seasons, including late or irregular hours.
• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, city directories, road maps, load tickets, SDS sheets, and memos.
• Ability to physically operate and maintain a truck and trailer combination, including climbing in, out, and around the truck.
