Exemplifies and ensures strong customer service in all aspects of the job. Directs and controls the operation of the Grocery Home Shopping Department to achieve sales and profit objectives.

About the role

As a primary contact for customers, the Grocery Home Shopping Department Manager provides friendly, courteous, and helpful service. The Department Manager spends the majority of their time selecting orders and ensuring that the processing/delivery of customers' orders are completed to standards and within set timelines. The role involves accountability for the department’s results in providing superior service, increasing sales, improving gain, and containing cost.

The Department Manager must demonstrate excellent motivation and team-working skills and be capable of working both independently and as part of a team. The position involves varying levels of pressure where adaptability is key.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service as defined by the employer within company policy.
• Operate a hand-held computer/scanning unit to check items from orders, ensuring the merchandise matches the order.
• Identify and locate items proficiently within the store’s three categories: ambient, chilled, and frozen.
• Monitor the processing of all customer orders to ensure customers receive all products ordered and charged for.
• Review order picking to ensure time commitments are met.
• Bag grocery items and place them into bins.
• Push filled carts (12 items per bin or fewer for larger items, 6 bins per cart) to the back room for staging onto hand trucks.
• Push loaded hand trucks to the delivery truck and load filled bins onto the truck, ensuring correct loading.
• Train, schedule, and supervise Personal Shoppers.
• Ensure adherence to all daily/weekly routines to demonstrate due diligence with legal compliance.
• Maintain cleanliness of the store and back-room area.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Knowledge of Safeway is highly desirable.

• 95% inside, 5% outside.

• Vision: Use of peripheral vision and depth perception; near vision for reading labels, tags, processing orders, and checking the hand-held computer screen.
• Hearing/Speech: Used to receive instructions, interact with customers and employees, and use the telephone/intercom.

Pay

The pay range is $24.15-$24.30 per hour, but no less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates vary based on location, experience, qualifications, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
