About the role

Support the Southern Westchester BOCES Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals in all instruction, decisions and actions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify specific student learning challenges; develop, design, and implement differentiated lessons and programs to address these challenges.
  • Prepare student IEPs in collaboration with instructional teams.
  • Work collaboratively with the site teams to identify and support students academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • Collaborate with all related-service providers and school counselors to identify and provide opportunities for students to explore academic, career, and life goals.
  • Support students and families throughout the process of transitioning to post-secondary learning and vocational programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in support of students in their endeavors to engage in all academic coursework and SEL programming.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians on a regular basis.
  • Participate in intake process for students seeking admission to instructional programs.
  • Contribute to the planning of student support through the Child Study Team process.
  • Participate in school community-building activities, clubs, and events.

Qualifications

  • Dual New York State Secondary Special Education Certification, Social Studies required.
  • Thorough understanding of Students with Disabilities and the continuum of services.
  • Knowledge of the New York State Social Studies Learning Standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Therapeutic Special Education programs.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of special education teaching experience preferred.
