DSW Program Adjunct Faculty Mentor - Social Work

About the role

Adjunct Faculty Mentors (AFM) provide small group oversight to approximately 15 students in the DSW program using a life-course model, working with each student for the duration of their matriculation. The AFM serves as a guide to help students understand performance transitions, adjustments for doctoral-level success, and professional development options.

Responsibilities

• Send an introductory email to students after receiving assignments.
• Send periodic emails to advisees throughout the term to solicit questions and provide supportive responses.
• Meet with mentees 2-3 times per term, either individually or in groups, focusing on:
  • Student goal attainment throughout the program.
  • Evolution of professional identity.
  • Areas of professional and research interest.
  • Professional career development.
• Provide guidance about concerns or conflicts related to course progression.
• Offer oversight to assigned students for the duration of their matriculation, with the option to exchange students if personality clashes occur.
• Familiarize yourself with the DSW Student Handbook to answer general questions about the capstone process and refer students to the Student Advisor or full-time faculty for detailed guidance.
• Direct students to appropriate support services (e.g., EAP program Perspectives, Writing Center, or Student Success Representative) for personal issues or needs outside the AFM role.

Requirements

• MSW degree and a social work doctorate, or a doctorate in a related field.
• At least one prior term of experience teaching in the DSW program.

This is a non-tenure track role without eligibility for tenure. Appointments may be renewed but are not guaranteed and are contingent upon sufficient enrollment and program needs. Communication must be conducted using your Simmons email account.

Pay

$35.53 per student.
