About the Role
This Direct Support Professional (DSP) position is part-time, capped at 19.75 hours per week, with flexible shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd) depending on open positions. Weekend availability is preferred. The role involves supporting individuals in a group home setting, providing natural learning opportunities, and assisting with daily living and personal care.
Responsibilities
- Provide services and supports to individuals in all environments according to each person-centered plan.
- Recognize natural learning opportunities to teach independent living skills and enhance individuals’ independence.
- Maintain the individual’s home within established standards, including health and safety guidelines, protection of individual rights, and fiscal parameters.
- Follow Rule 50, Dept. of Human Services Rule 115, Rule 116, Rule 119, Rule 120, and other relevant regulatory guidelines.
- Support the agency’s mission, vision, values, and strategic plan in all responsibilities.
- Conduct oneself professionally with people served, staff, guardians, families, and outside contacts.
- Advocate for individuals through knowledge of personal preferences, protection from abuse and neglect, and support for personal relationships.
- Report allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation as a mandated reporter.
- Assist individuals with personal needs such as transferring, toileting, eating, and grooming.
- Deliver services and supports as outlined in Person-Centered Plans, ensuring activities reflect individual preferences.
- Assist individuals in maintaining their home and report needed repairs or modifications.
- Adapt teaching/interacting style to support individual needs.
- Respect and ensure the basic civil, human, and legal rights of all individuals.
- Supervise individuals in community and at home throughout assigned shifts.
- Act as a positive role model and ensure dignity, privacy, and rights are observed.
- Provide natural learning opportunities to teach independent living skills.
- Involve individuals in in-home and community leisure activities.
- Complete annual training refreshers and attend in-service meetings, House meetings, and Discovery meetings.
- Obtain and maintain “authorized status” for medication administration as designated by the RN.
- Perform all safety and emergency procedures calmly and professionally.
- Communicate regularly with the Community Living Manager, QIDP, nursing, and other team members.
- Follow and implement all agency policies, departmental protocols, and procedures.
- Provide required documentation regarding program delivery, medication administration, financial records, and other requested documentation.
- Transport individuals using an EP!C vehicle or personal vehicle as required.
- Maintain documentation on client programs and goals in accordance with CILA and agency guidelines.
- Maintain progress notes on basic living skills, leisure activities, and general progress.
- Maintain accurate financial records, including receipts and expenditures.
- Practice safety procedures and maintain personal hygiene standards.
- Report concerns about the home environment to ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Request guidance from the Program Manager to maintain effective service delivery.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Access to a telephone.
- Successfully complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, and Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training.
- Complete DSP training in accordance with state regulations and maintain acceptable status on the Health Care Worker’s Registry.
- Obtain/maintain standing as an Authorized Direct Support Person for medication administration.
- Pass a criminal background check.

- Working knowledge of Person-Centered Planning and the Council of Quality Leadership (CQL).
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking, sitting, reaching, grasping, and standing.
- Ability to assist in the evacuation of residents in emergencies.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Operate general office equipment, including multi-line phone, fax, printer, copier, and personal computer.
