About the role

Western State Hospital is growing and seeks a Security Guard for day-shift positions (6:00 AM–2:30 PM).

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus in a vehicle and on foot, providing protection for hospital staff, patients, visitors, and property.
• Intervene and de-escalate in uncertain or crisis situations.
• Provide security presence, conduct walk-throughs, and perform safety checks on the wards.
• Aid in gathering evidence and acting as a liaison between emergency responders and hospital leadership.
• Conduct confiscation and securement of contraband, write reports, and operate necessary equipment.
• Respond to fire, smoke, intrusion, and burglar alarms, ensuring accountability of equipment, keys, I.D. badges, and other controlled items.
• Issue parking violation notices as appropriate and assist in providing on-the-job training and orientation for newly hired Security Guards.

Requirements

• Valid driver's license.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work.
• A certificate of completion in a basic law enforcement training program approved by the Washington Criminal Justice Training Commission, and one year of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work.
• A certificate of completion in a police or reserve police academy or military training program, and one year of experience in areas of work, such as security guard, correctional officer, store investigations, police officer, police reserve officer, military police, or other law enforcement work.

Qualifications

Employees driving on state business must have a valid driver's license. Employees driving a privately owned vehicle on state business must have liability insurance on the privately owned vehicle.

Pay

The position offers an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary for employees performing on-site at this work location at least three days a week.
