DSHS Rainier Warehouse Operator 2
This position is located at Rainier School in Buckley, Washington, and supports daily warehouse operations within the Consolidated Business Services (CBS) Region 2 under the Finance, Technology, and Analytics Administration (FTAA).
About the role
As a Warehouse Operator 2, you will support warehouse operations by receiving, verifying, storing, and distributing products and supplies. You’ll maintain organized and properly stocked warehouse areas, assist with inventory activities, and use inventory management systems to ensure accurate records. This role involves collaborating with vendors and staff to resolve delivery, inventory, and customer service issues while ensuring efficient distribution of goods to support residents, staff, and facility operations.
The position is 100% onsite, Monday through Friday. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs. Employees working on-site at this location at least three days a week may qualify for an additional 5% premium pay on top of the advertised salary.
Responsibilities
- Receive and inspect deliveries by unloading shipments, verifying condition and accuracy, and resolving discrepancies.
- Maintain organized warehouse spaces by stocking shelves, repacking merchandise, filling orders, and maximizing storage.
- Pick and prepare orders for distribution to units, departments, and other facility areas.
- Maintain accurate inventory records using inventory management and reporting systems.
- Conduct scheduled inventory activities, including monthly, quarterly, and annual counts.
- Coordinate facility-wide distribution to ensure goods are properly received, stored, accounted for, and issued.
- Work with internal customers to identify specifications and requirements for requested goods and materials.
- Communicate with vendors to obtain product information, resolve delivery issues, and expedite orders.
- Process receiving documentation and forward required information for timely vendor payment.
- Assist staff and customers with product selection, availability, order status, and other warehouse-related inquiries.
Requirements
- High school graduation or GED.
- Physical ability to perform required warehouse tasks.
- One year of clerical or technical experience in retail clerking, warehousing, stockkeeping, shipping, or receiving, including operation of material handling equipment.
- Equivalent education/experience may substitute for the above.
Skills
- Knowledge of inventory control practices, warehousing methods, and effective storage techniques.
- Ability to learn inventory systems and use specialized supply-management software accurately.
- Ability to organize warehouse operations for safe, efficient receiving, storage, inventory control, and distribution.
- Ability to safely operate equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks, delivery vehicles, and related tools.
- Ability to perform physical warehouse tasks while following proper safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities by organizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
