About the role
We are seeking a Drum Educator who is passionate about building the next generation of artists and creating a space where children help to create the environment in which they learn. The ideal candidate will have experience with a variety of percussion instruments and a strong commitment to continuous improvement and positive communication with families.
Responsibilities
- Teach mostly percussion, with a preference for more traditional instruments such as Marimba, Xylophone, Tabla, and Hand Drums
- Regularly assess student progress and understanding
- Reflect on classes to identify what is working and what could be improved
- Participate in professional development activities, both internally and externally
- Assist in curriculum development if necessary
- Ask “How can we do this better?”
- Maintain a high level of professionalism, including arriving 10-15 minutes early to prepare the room, responding promptly to communications, taking attendance, meeting deadlines, and providing lesson plans in advance
- Engage with caregivers to help them understand what their children are learning and why
- Find music that is relatable to students and ask questions to seek support
Requirements
- At least BM in Music
- Converse in a second language (preferred)
- Prior experience in teaching private and group lessons
- Play and teach a variety of musical styles
- Understand pedagogy and how to scaffold concepts and goals
