Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to join the wireless team as a Field Technician – Fiber Drops. This is a full-time, hourly position with Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region.
Responsibilities
Underground Drop
- Safely and efficiently install underground cables in residential and commercial environments.
- Use best practices for installing underground wiring to comply with local building codes.
- Operate various trenching equipment such as a mini skid steer or walk-behind trencher.
- Locate existing buried copper and fiber facilities and comply with 811 requirements (OneCall) before any digging projects; properly identify other utility flags and safely work around other utilities.
- Load reel trailers with strand, fiber, or cable as required.
- Bury cable and conduit systems by operating blowing, plowing, digging, boring, and trenching equipment and pulling fiber and cable through conduit systems.
Overhead Drop
- Safely and efficiently install overhead cables in residential and commercial environments.
- Use best practices for installing overhead wiring to comply with local codes, regulations, and customer specifications.
- Load reel trailers with strand, fiber, or cable as required.
- Hang overhead cable or strand using various methods including ladder, bucket truck, or gaffs.
- Pull fiber and cable through conduit systems.
Requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to quickly learn proprietary computer applications.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to be insured to drive a company vehicle (preferred).
- Flexibility to work outside standard 8 a.m.–5 p.m. hours and willingness to travel on a weekly basis.
- Must be willing to travel within the region 50% of the time (hotels and per diem paid for out-of-town travel).
Physical Requirements
- Lift and carry up to and above 50 pounds.
- Utilize fine motor coordination, clear speech, and good visual acuity.
- Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
- Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Exposure to outside weather conditions.
- Ability to safely load, secure, and haul a trailer for transporting materials and equipment.
A successful candidate will be a critical thinker, willing to develop new solutions and collaborate with team members to determine the best approach in unique situations.
Pay
$23.50–$25.00 hourly wage.
