Technician On Call
About the role
This key position performs a variety of duties related to food preparation, meal service, and kitchen operations. The Technician On Call supports the efficient operation of the food service program by assisting with meal preparation, maintaining sanitation standards, and ensuring the nutritional needs of residents are met. Work is performed under the general supervision of a designated supervisor and is reviewed for compliance with established policies, procedures, and performance standards.
Responsibilities

- Assists with inventorying food supplies and maintaining lists of items to be purchased.
- Sets up serving lines and assists in the service of prepared meals.
- Prepares and cooks food items according to established menus, including accommodations for special dietary needs.
- Cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, utensils, and food preparation areas.
- Assists with inspecting work areas to ensure compliance with cleanliness and sanitation standards.
- Prepares and mixes liquid food formulas as prescribed by physicians or dietitians.
- Assumes responsibility for the efficient operation of the dietary section during off-shift hours and in the absence of the supervisor.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) month of experience in institutional or large-scale food preparation.
- An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Skills
- Knowledge of materials, equipment, and methods used in large-scale food preparation.
- Knowledge of sanitation practices and personal hygiene standards required in food preparation and service.
- Knowledge of standard cooking recipes and the ability to prepare food accordingly.
- Ability to safely operate standard cooking equipment and use kitchen utensils in a large-scale food service environment.
- Ability to coordinate and work effectively with employees engaged in food service activities.
- Ability to understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions.
Pay
Pay Grade: 406 - From $16.40 to $16.95. FLSA Status: Placement based on Education and Experience.
