Driver - Service Truck

About the Role

Safely transport the service truck and trailer with roller or skid steer to and from project sites. Maintain sufficient inventory levels of fuels, water, oils, traffic control signs, temporary marking tape, and miscellaneous supplies required for paving operations. Perform manual labor to support paving operations as assigned. This is an hourly, non-exempt position working under direct and indirect supervision.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily truck and trailer walk-around inspections, checking fluid levels, hoses, tires, lights, chains, placards, straps, and wear components to ensure safe and productive operation. Report deficiencies to the Foreman via squawk sheets.
• Conduct pre-shift component checks to verify all systems are functioning properly and equipment is secured on the trailer to comply with regulations.
• Fuel and water equipment as directed by the Foreman.
• Maintain inventory levels of all products to support operations and track daily fuel distribution on fuel sheets, submitting them weekly to the Foreman.
• Perform end-of-shift maintenance, clean-up, and walk-around to ensure the truck and trailer meet manufacturer’s requirements.
• Adhere to and enforce paving safety rules, including end-of-shift reviews of tanks containing oils, fuels, and water to verify valves are shut off and locked, with no leaks.
• Stage the vehicle in bright, illuminated, or occupied locations to prevent vandalism or theft, and away from environmentally sensitive areas.
• Perform laboring assignments on the crew when Service Truck Driver duties are not required.
• Exercise proper care and maintenance of company equipment.
• Frequently work more than 40 hours per week, including night shifts, Saturdays, and occasionally Sundays.
• Travel and arrive on time at various jobsite locations.
• Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

• Must successfully complete PennDOT Flagger Training Course.
• Must have a valid driver’s license for your state of residence with an acceptable driving record per company minimum standards.
• Must have a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tank and hazmat endorsements.
• Must meet company minimum standards for drivers.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of heavy trucks and mechanical concepts.
• Ability to learn and follow company policies and procedures.
• Prefer high school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous paving and heavy truck driving experience preferred.

• Behavior-Based Safety (Toolbox Talk)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to navigate out of immediate area as needed.
• Ability to work with minimal lighting during night shift operations.
• Ability to work in a field environment with exposure to dust, inclement weather, extreme heat, noise, and petroleum products.
• Ability to physically climb on and off equipment safely.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate as stated in 49 CFR 391.43(h).
