Driver Safety Specialist

About the role

Driver Safety Specialist (DSS) positions are available full-time in York, PA. Up to 50% travel is required for this role. The DSS facilitates driver safety education and remedial training programs, identifying unsafe habits and behaviors and coordinating solutions to reduce future non-compliance or unsafe actions.

Responsibilities

• Accompany drivers for observations and evaluations of driving behaviors and skills, ensuring compliance with provincial and Day & Ross requirements such as log books, speed limits, and inspections.
• Maintain adherence to legislative safety laws by ensuring driver and supervisory personnel comply with relevant regulations.
• Create and facilitate safety training materials to educate employees on safety legislations.
• Communicate effectively in both individual and group settings, using educational tools like laptops, LCD projectors, and creating handouts.
• Facilitate LCV permit review training with new operations team members as needed.
• Remain on call for and attend at accidents/collisions as a company representative, completing all required reports.

Requirements

• CDL-A license, either active or previously held.
• Previous transportation or operational experience, particularly in roles related to transportation.
• Preference given to applicants with occupational health and safety experience.
• Strong computer skills, including accuracy in MS products, AS400, and web-based programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• Experience with safety training and education.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Skills

• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS products and web-based programs.
• Ability to set up and use educational tools.
• Knowledge of safety legislation and regulations.
