Location: Cleveland, TN – Department of Safety & Homeland Security, Bradley County

Full-time position with an approved starting salary of $3,041.00 per month ($34,752.00 annually). This position requires a criminal background check.

Qualifications

Education equivalent to graduation from a standard high school.

  • Complete a background clearance application, including releasing all records involving any criminal history and completing a fingerprint-based and name-based criminal history records check.
  • Never have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity in a civilian or military jurisdiction of any Permanent disqualifying criminal offense listed in section 1572.103(a) of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) – Title 49.
  • Never have been convicted or found not guilty by reason of insanity in a civilian or military jurisdiction within the 7 years preceding the date of application of any Interim disqualifying criminal offense listed in section 1572.103(b) of the CFR – Title 49.
  • Not have been released from incarceration within the 5 years preceding the date of application for any Interim disqualifying criminal offense listed in section 1572.103(b) of the CFR – Title 49.
  • Not be under want or warrant for a felony listed in section 1572.103(a) or section 1572.103(b) of the CFR – Title 49.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license or be able to obtain one prior to appointment.

For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not include: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, or more than 4 moving violations. Responsibilities

  • Explains state laws, licensing requirements, and rules and regulations of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security regarding driver's license policies and procedures to the public.
  • Answers questions regarding office hours, location, fee amounts, and application process.
  • Collects appropriate fees and identifying documents (e.g., social security card, proof of residence, current driver's license, USDOT medical card) and verifies their legitimacy.
  • Accesses applicant test files and approves applicants for appropriate testing procedures.
  • Counts and records registers' cash-on-hand at the beginning and end of work shifts, prints daily receipt reports, and identifies discrepancies between receipt reports and cash on hand.
  • Calculates daily office revenue by aggregating all register revenues for the office and reconciles daily office revenue by comparing the daily report to the INFOPAC report.
  • Prepares bank deposits and transports deposits to banks.
  • Instructs applicants on the completion of forms and test-taking procedures; administers vision screenings, written tests, and road skills tests to applicants applying for Tennessee driver's licenses in accordance with state guidelines.
  • Photographs applicants using a digitized camera.
  • Advises applicants of results, explains steps required for retaking appropriate tests if the applicant does not meet passing standards, and records results into the computer database.
  • Inspects motor vehicle functioning, including lights, brakes, and turn signals, to determine if the vehicle is safe to operate.
  • Determines adherence to road safety rules, regulations, and laws by observing applicants' abilities to maneuver vehicles and follow traffic signs, lights, and right-of-ways.
  • Updates operational records or licensing information and enters biographical data into the License Information System for Tennessee (LIST).
  • Compares applicants' personal information in the database with data on written applications to ensure accuracy.
  • Reviews applicant's information with the applicant to ensure all information is correct.
  • May handle complex projects, address customer inquiries, process immigration cases, and provide accommodations for applicants who need special assistance.
  • May assist with audits, reports, ordering equipment, or supplies.
