Driver-Outreach Assistant (Library)

About the role

As a Driver-Outreach Assistant for the Uintah County Library, this position blends hands-on fleet management with direct community engagement to deliver vital services across Uintah and Daggett counties. Reporting to the Assistant Director, you will safely operate mobile vehicles, including the Little Library Express and a future full-scale bookmobile, while managing daily vehicle safety inspections, maintenance logs, and route scheduling across rural and mountain roads.

On the front lines of community outreach, you will execute full ILS circulation workflows, issue new library cards, process fines, and provide technical support for on-vehicle Wi-Fi and digital media. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with Librarians to curate mobile collections, lead impromptu children's activities at stop locations, track daily usage statistics, and ensure full compliance with Utah Code regarding patron privacy.

Responsibilities

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least one year of experience in a public library, school library, bookstore, or comparable public-facing customer service role (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
• Valid Utah Driver's License with an insurable driving history, verified by a current Motor Vehicle Record
• Must successfully clear a pre-employment criminal background check
• Available for a flexible schedule that includes some evening and weekend work

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or college coursework (highly desirable)
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (highly desirable)
• Localized knowledge of the Uintah Basin communities (highly desirable)
• Prior experience in mobile outreach operations or youth literacy activities like children's story times (highly desirable)
