About the role
The Ready-Mix Driver will transport freshly mixed concrete from the plant to the job site safely, make normal operating adjustments to equipment and material, and perform related duties.
Responsibilities
- Comply with all Department of Transportation requirements including licensing, vehicle inspection, and hours of service.
- Operate truck safely on public highways, roads, yard areas, and job sites to deliver materials.
- Inspect the truck at the start of each workday, completing the Driver Check-off Sheet to confirm all systems function properly.
- Maneuver the truck to deliver concrete to the point of delivery; back truck under batching plant or hopper to receive concrete.
- Climb the 10-12 ft ladder on the mixer truck to inspect load consistency, amount, and drum cleanliness.
- Adjust trailer axle pressure based on load weight.
- Follow written and verbal instructions, including city street maps and directions; complete necessary paperwork.
- Assemble concrete chutes weighing 30-50 pounds each.
- Operate hand and foot controls; follow hand signals.
- Maintain truck cleanliness, including basic maintenance, spraying, and cleaning after loads to prevent concrete buildup.
- Meet all eligibility requirements for driving a commercial motor vehicle in interstate commerce per Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and Department of Transportation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; experience in ready-mix trucks or related industry preferred.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Must pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- Must possess and maintain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and a valid DOT Medical Card.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to work in stressful environments and communicate professionally.
- Demonstrated hands-on, collaborative approach; ability to work well in a team and independently.
- Ability to read plant site maps, city street maps, and GPS-based equipment information.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
- Ability to read and interpret mixer truck gauges.
- Ability to utilize a tablet for load status, timekeeping, training, and other tasks.
- Demonstrated ability to take guidance and direction from a supervisor.
- Regular and consistent attendance; willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
Physical Requirements
- Able to communicate via email, telephone, and in person.
- Regularly able to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Able to frequently stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear.
- Ability to make precise, coordinated movements of fingers to grasp or manipulate switches and controls.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, inclined walkways, and access elevated platforms.
Work Environment
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, seasonal temperature variations, and vibration.
- Moderate noise level in the work environment.
