About the role

As a local shuttle driver, you will execute local deliveries within a 50-mile radius using a 26ft box truck, ensuring the utmost care, professionalism, and accuracy.

Pay

Starting pay ranges from $23.00 to $26.00 per hour, plus a $2.00 per hour shift differential for overnight shifts (based on experience).

Responsibilities

  • Operate a 26’ box truck safely and in compliance with all traffic laws and Department of Transportation regulations
  • Accurately and efficiently load and unload cargo, often using a manual or powered pallet jack
  • Back truck to customer dock
  • Maintain compliance with Federal and State safety regulations and safe, professional driving behavior
  • Communicate with customer representatives in a pleasant, respectful, and efficient manner
  • Coordinate with dispatchers
  • Comply with all DOT requirements, including drug and alcohol testing (subject to random and reasonable-suspicion testing)
  • Secure cargo and properly arrange and balance it within the vehicle
  • Ensure any mechanical issues with the vehicle are corrected before driving
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • CDL A License required
  • A minimum of 2 years CDL A driving experience within the last 4 years (3+ years preferred)
  • Meet D.O.T. qualification requirements, FMCSR 391.41
  • Experience in load securement, route planning, and navigating various road conditions
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to handle sensitive cargo with care
  • Detail-oriented mindset
  • Must have a TWIC or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card within 90 days, if required

Physical Demands

  • Sit for extended periods while operating a commercial vehicle
  • Use hands and fingers to operate a steering wheel, controls, GPS devices, and other on-board equipment
  • Reach with hands and arms, climb in and out of the cab and trailer, and occasionally stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch during inspections, coupling/uncoupling, or loading/unloading activities
  • Communicate effectively using verbal and hearing skills, often via CB radio or mobile devices
  • Vision requirements include the ability to see at a distance for safe driving, as well as close vision for reading documents, using electronic logs, and performing inspections
  • Frequently carry, push, or pull freight weighing 1-125 pounds
  • Lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently reach for freight at waist level and occasionally above shoulder height or below waist level
  • Shift manual transmission and operate foot pedals (not applicable on all trucks)
  • Frequently squat or crouch to handle and position freight
  • Climb in and out of the truck 4 to 6 feet, 8 to 10 times daily with assistance of various steps and handholds; occasionally bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching, and balancing
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections, fuel vehicles, and check engine oil/coolant levels; perform preventative maintenance
  • Spend at least 5% of the day standing and 5% walking on surfaces such as wood, metal, and concrete (surfaces may sometimes be slippery or wet)
  • Reach above shoulder level, at waist level, and below waist level for maneuvering and directing controls to operate the truck

Work Environment

  • Exposure to diesel fumes, airborne particles, and occasionally harsh weather conditions while loading or unloading
  • Time spent both inside the truck cab (which may involve extended periods of sitting and exposure to engine noise and vibration) and outside at customer sites, terminals, or on public roadways
  • Noise levels vary from quiet inside the cab to moderate or loud at delivery or pick-up locations
