About the role

Food and food service delivery Drivers fulfill a critical role in the country's food supply chain. Our delivery drivers not only ensure customers' products arrive at their destination at the arranged times and in good condition, but they are the face of our company—building lasting relationships with our customers.

The CDL-A Driver is responsible for driving a tractor trailer or straight truck on intrastate and interstate local, over-the-road (OTR), shuttle, and overnight and drive-and-drop routes to deliver and/or unload food and food-related products to customers safely and on time, in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Drivers communicate and interact with customers, vendors, and co-workers professionally, ensuring questions are answered accurately and in a timely manner. They function as a team member within the department and organization, performing any duty assigned to best serve the company.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all required safety checks (pre/post trip), including inspections of tractor/truck and trailer according to DOT regulations; inspect tractor/truck and trailer to ensure they meet company safety standards and take appropriate action as needed. Report all safety issues and/or required repairs.
  • Follow all DOT regulations and company safe driving guidelines and policies. Immediately report any and all safety hazards.
  • Inspect trailer for properly loaded and secured freight. Perform count checks of items and verify customer invoices of loaded products. Check and complete all required paperwork associated with freight accurately and legibly.
  • Move tractor to the loading dock and attach preloaded trailer as needed.
  • Ensure that tractor, trailer, and freight are appropriately locked and/or secured at all times.
  • Unload damaged goods and customer returns, bring them to driver check-in, and complete necessary paperwork and procedures at the end of the shift.
  • Unload all equipment and materials, and remove trash from trailers as required.
  • Comply with daily record-keeping and hours of service requirements, adhering to DOT, state, and company policies.
  • Uphold overall safety standards and follow guidelines for the proper handling of freight throughout the delivery process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all company policies and standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience
  • 6 months–1 year of commercial driving experience
  • Foodservice distribution industry experience
  • Onboard computer and electronic log system experience (e.g., PeopleNet)
  • Hand-held point of delivery scanning system experience (e.g., POD)
  • Customer service-related work experience
