About the Role

Under general supervision and according to established procedures, this role performs routine to semi-skilled general corrective and preventive maintenance duties related to the repair, alteration, and modification of hospital grounds, buildings, equipment, and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Receive assignments and work orders; review priority status and design time schedules.
• Sketch plans and interpret blueprints, diagrams, operating manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications to estimate time, material, and cost requirements.
• Operate and test new equipment; perform corrective and preventive maintenance on a variety of equipment, including inspection, calibration, adjustment, lubrication, and repair or replacement of components.
• Service or repair less complex equipment; schedule and maintain records of maintenance and repairs.
• Perform general semi-skilled to skilled maintenance, alterations, and repairs to grounds-related machinery, equipment, or facilities.
• Maintain grounds by mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning trees, sweeping walks, cleaning drains, and operating snow removal equipment (e.g., plow, blower, shovel).
• Construct, install, or repair items such as fences, traffic control barriers, and outdoor signage; paint curbs, guardrails, sign posts, and re-line parking lots.
• Move and set up furniture and equipment; maintain storage of excess materials and bulk records.
• Patch holes in pavement, repair cracks, and perform landscaping tasks, including planting and labor for landscaping projects.
• Respond to emergency repair calls; document services rendered.
• Assist in training staff on equipment operation and repair; evaluate new equipment.
• Order supplies and parts according to established procedures; assist in costing work assignments.
• Maintain courteous and cooperative relations with patients, visitors, staff, and the public.
• Keep work areas orderly, clean, and safe; comply with codes and regulatory requirements.
• Some overtime and on-call status may be required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver’s License and a clean RMV driving record.
• 1 year of landscaping experience required; 3–5 years preferred.
• Experience operating snowplows and lawn equipment.

Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of landscaping, horticulture, and mechanics, typically acquired through 3 years of related experience.
• Ability to safely operate hand, electrical, and gasoline-powered tools/equipment.
• Proficiency in reading, writing, and basic arithmetic to complete work orders, requisitions, and inventory records.
• Strong interpersonal skills to communicate with user departments and vendors.
• Ability to work independently, travel between work sites, and handle physically demanding tasks in various environmental conditions (e.g., extreme temperatures, chemicals, dust, hazardous waste).

Pay

$30.89/hour (Grade BG2453).

Schedule

• Full-time: 40 hours per week.
• Day shift.
• Onsite at 81 Highland Avenue.
