Driver for Child Nutrition Department: Uplift Meridian Preparatory 26-27 SY

About the Role

The CNP Driver plays a critical part in delivering nutritious meals to scholars and staff by ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of food and related supplies to various school locations. This role supports the successful operation of the school child nutrition program while maintaining compliance with regulations and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing and receiving orders to ensure specifications, quantity, and quality are correct.
• Load food carriers (Cambro) with prepared meals into the vehicle; unload and transport to vended kitchens while ensuring food temperatures remain optimal.
• Drive delivery vehicles to transport food, supplies, and materials to designated areas in a timely manner.
• Assist in cleaning, organizing, and rotating stock, as well as managing inventory.
• Prepare quality food according to planned menus and recipes; serve food according to meal schedules and food safety policies.
• Store and handle food items and supplies according to policies and procedures.
• Maintain the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and sanitation in the kitchen.
• Operate tools and equipment according to safety standards and established policies.
• Keep garbage collection containers and areas neat and sanitary.
• Follow industry-standard guidelines for food safety and sanitation, including personal hygiene and appearance.
• Adhere to professional conduct and ensure compliance with USDA/TDA guidelines for counting and claiming processes.
• Handle and record cashier functions accurately and timely.
• Maintain daily food production worksheets and delivery receipts.
• Promote teamwork and interact positively with fellow staff members.
• Complete annual continuing education, training, and monthly meetings.
• Assist in daily and major cleaning of kitchen areas, equipment, refrigerators, freezers, and storage areas.
• Perform additional kitchen tasks as assigned (e.g., dishwashing, cashiering, cleaning, or transporting meals within the school).
• Provide courteous and professional interactions with scholars and staff.
• Support other personnel as needed to complete work activities.
• Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections, refuel as needed, and report maintenance or malfunctions promptly in accordance with Department of Transportation and internal fleet safety guidelines.
• Obey traffic laws and practice defensive driving.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED preferred; equivalent work experience may substitute.
• Previous driving experience with a company vehicle preferred.
• Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record; must maintain current license without lapses.
• Ability to obtain a Food Handler Permit within 5 days of employment.
• Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures.
• Capable of operating motorized vehicles, small and large kitchen equipment, and tools safely.

Skills

• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.
• Bilingual: Ability to read, analyze, and follow instructions in written or oral English.
• Technology: Ability to learn and use necessary software (e.g., POS, timekeeping systems) and basic office equipment.
• Mathematical: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations.

Other Qualifications

• Must pass a criminal records check pre-hire and annually, if applicable.
• Must pass a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand and walk for the entire shift.
• Frequently required to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, and bend.
• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50-60 pounds.
• Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
• Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat.

Work Environment

• Proximity to other employees with frequent interruptions.
• Extended periods of standing and viewing a computer screen.
• Moderate to high noise levels and potential distractions from other employees and students.

Pay

$18.00 per hour (starting pay).
