Responsibilities
- Operate only commercial vehicles (Class B with air brakes) with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of over 10,000 pounds to transport lumber, building materials, and equipment to customer sites, suppliers, or other designated locations.
- Transport materials over public highways in interstate commerce, including routes that cross state lines or connect with terminals.
- Adhere to all DOT regulations, including hours-of-service (HOS) requirements, and complete pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Ensure vehicles remain in safe operating condition by reporting any mechanical issues immediately.
- Secure loads properly using straps, tarps, and other equipment to prevent shifting or damage during transit, ensuring compliance with DOT weight and load securement regulations.
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), adhering to speed limits, and maintaining safe distances from other vehicles.
- Interact professionally with customers and suppliers, ensuring accurate delivery of materials and addressing any concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, including bills of lading, delivery receipts, and fuel logs, in compliance with DOT and company policies.
- Assist with loading and unloading lumber, organizing materials in the yard, and performing other tasks as needed when not driving.
- Report any accidents, injuries, or safety violations immediately, following company and DOT procedures.
- Participate in ongoing safety and DOT compliance training sessions provided by the company.
- Immediately report any safety concerns, near-misses, or equipment issues to management.
- Comply with DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing requirements, including pre-employment, random, and post-accident testing.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B is required.
- One year of previous commercial driving experience is required.
- Must be able to raise and move up to 75 pounds of equipment, tools, supplies, and/or other items from a lower to a higher position or horizontally from position to position.
