Driver and Traffic Safety Education Teacher - Seaford High School - TEMPORARY for the 2026-2027 School Year

About the Role

This is a temporary, full-time position ending on June 30th, with a 10-month, 188-day schedule. The role is eligible for the state share of benefits and pension.

Responsibilities

• Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
• Creates lesson plans and instructional materials, translating them into learning experiences to best utilize available time for art and driver/traffic safety instruction.
• Conducts ongoing assessment of student skills and learning in driver and traffic safety.
• Demonstrates techniques in driver and traffic safety education.
• Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time.
• Evaluates each pupil’s performance and growth in driver and traffic safety.
• Provides instruction and in-car training in all aspects of driver and traffic safety education.
• Continues professional development by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
• Organizes and maintains accurate record-keeping, grading, and reporting for student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and laws.
• Encourages parental involvement and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
• Ensures student conduct conforms to school standards and maintains a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and automobile.
• Coordinates with other school professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings and committees.
• Selects and requisitions appropriate books, instructional aids, and supplies, maintaining inventory records.
• Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators.

Requirements

• Delaware State Certification as a Driver Education and Traffic Safety Education Teacher or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.
• Minimum of 21 credits in the following areas:
  • Human Development (3 credits)
  • Identifying and Treating Exceptionalities (3 credits)
  • Effective Teaching Strategies (3 credits)
  • Cultural Diversity (3 credits)
  • Driver Education, Methods and Materials (3 credits)
  • Driver Education, In-Car Training (3 credits)
  • Three additional credits in one of the following:
    • Alcohol and Drug Education
    • Current Issues in Driver Education
    • Problems in Driver and Safety Education
    • First Aid
    • Teaching Students with Disabilities
    • Education for Safe Living
• Valid driver’s license with no more than five (5) points on driving record at time of application.
• Driver’s license must not have been suspended, revoked, or disqualified in any jurisdiction in the last five years.
• Successful PRAXIS II scores or a valid out-of-state teaching license (requirements vary based on experience).
• Favorable criminal background check and child protection registry check.
• Tuberculin test.
