Drilling Advisor

About the Role

Work with drillers, rig managers, directional drillers, and/or operator real-time centers to maximize drilling performance on Patterson rigs. Visit rig sites and work directly with drillers and/or directional drillers to coach on company’s/operator’s standard practices and technology utilization. Communicate learnings from the field back into the organization. Document performance improvements using EDR data, rig sensor data, and third-party data. Work with operations personnel to identify areas for performance improvement. Coach and train drillers on rig control systems and performance opportunities. This is a rotational-based position.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize drilling performance through collaboration with drillers, rig managers, directional drillers, and operator real-time centers.
  • Visit rig sites to coach drillers and directional drillers on standard practices and technology utilization.
  • Document and communicate performance improvements using EDR data, rig sensor data, and third-party data.
  • Identify areas for performance improvement with operations personnel.
  • Train and coach drillers on rig control systems and performance opportunities.
  • Travel regularly to worksites, including remote locations, and support business units.
  • Work variable hours, including weekends, holidays, and extended travel outside the assigned region.
  • Maintain high visibility and time-sensitive responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks and projects to meet deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to give and follow directions promptly.
  • Excellent soft skills to gain buy-in from operations and customers.
  • Ability to safely navigate drilling rig work sites, including walking, climbing, standing, and stepping in various weather conditions (day/night, hot/cold).
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for presentations, reports, and correspondence.
  • Physical ability to:
    • Lift and carry 50 pounds independently while walking on uneven surfaces.
    • Bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl occasionally during field visits.
    • Listen for unusual noises indicating equipment or machinery problems.
    • Stay alert and focused during extended work periods.
    • Maintain spatial orientation and awareness in environments with moving objects, including overhead machinery.
    • Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all designated times.
  • Ability to travel regularly, including extended stays in remote locations and overnight trips.
  • Willingness to work weekends, be on call after hours, and travel to districts for operational support.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years of experience in the drilling industry.
  • 2+ years of field experience as a driller and/or directional driller.
  • Working knowledge of multiple basins within US Land Shale Plays.
  • Eligible to drive a Company or personal vehicle for Company purposes, including meeting the requirements of the Company’s Vehicle Use Agreement and Driving Policy.
