Driller/Exploration Team Member III

About the Role

Exploration Team Members (ETMs) perform subsurface exploration using conventional drilling or in-situ testing techniques. Work includes operating geotechnical drill rigs, overseeing drill crews, installing instrumentation, and performing routine maintenance and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operate geotechnical drill rigs using methods such as auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring.
• Perform in-situ testing techniques including cone penetration testing (CPT), pressure meter testing, and rock dilatometer testing.
• Install instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers.
• Work as part of a multi-person team on projects, including surveying and locating drilling points, conducting site reconnaissance, and loading/unloading tooling, materials, and samples.
• Classify soil and rock samples and prepare internal (daily field forms) and external (DOT Logs) paperwork.
• Problem-solve and implement solutions for routine to moderately complex issues with guidance from management or senior ETMs.
• Oversee a 2- or 3-person drill crew in all tasks associated with drilling operations.
• Perform routine repairs and maintenance on drilling equipment.
• Drive drilling equipment to and from project locations and inspect equipment for maintenance needs.
• Assist in project preparation, pre-task planning, and follow safety rules and guidelines for all projects.
• Report safety issues or concerns to management and maintain quality standards on all projects.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in geotechnical and/or environmental drilling methods.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history (may be required).
• Ability to obtain a DOT Medical Card within the first 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

• State-specific driller/well installation licensure where applicable.
