Drill Operator

About the role

Operates drill machines for the manufacture of all types of fasteners.

Responsibilities

• Operates up to two drill machines to produce machined parts according to blueprints, specifications and/or special instructions.
• Starts and operates machine operation to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls and machine as required.
• Operates machine on trial run to check accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
• Checks parts for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers and gauges and performs SPC.
• Recognizes and remedies minor machine malfunctioning or cutting action of tools. Major discrepancies are reported to supervisor.
• Identifies, disassembles, and determines corrective action required to repair work or broken parts.
• Checks tooling and reworks as needed to keep machine running.
• Lays out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.
• Troubleshoots cutters and fingers, including tooling necessary for setup and operation.
• Examines products to verify conformance to quality standards by following blueprints or work instructions.
• Reads blueprint or job order for product specifications such as dimensions, tolerance, number of parts to be checked.
• Performs record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follows safety regulations.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

• Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
• Able to measure dimensions of products to verify conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers.
