About the Role

Under direction from management and according to established policies and procedures, the Drill Lead oversees the day-to-day set-up, production performance, quality, productivity, and adherence to company policies of team members in the area/shift. This role also serves as an individual contributor, performing hands-on tasks daily while maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work and deploy operators to maximize productivity and piece output while monitoring quality standards, coordinating with 1st shift for production continuity.
  • Ensure first run inspections and periodic quality checks are performed using a 2-pan or 3-pan system.
  • Serve as a single point of contact for operators, assisting with set-up, run times, inspection, troubleshooting, and other tasks to execute the daily production plan.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, checking fluid levels, air pressure, belts, and other mechanical items.
  • Train and develop team members in manufacturing disciplines within the area of responsibility.
  • Execute work allocation to machines and operators to meet daily production targets, making adjustments as needed.
  • Deploy resources across work centers to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly production and sales targets in cooperation with other shifts.
  • Evaluate and prioritize daily thru cleaning and blast areas in support of production goals, in cooperation with OSP.
  • Maintain department housekeeping, adhering to 5S principles.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining tooling inventory levels based on production forecasts.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards using blueprints or work instructions.
  • Read blueprints or job orders to determine product specifications, dimensions, tolerances, and number of parts to be checked.
  • Perform record keeping, data entry, housekeeping, and follow safety regulations.

Individual Contributor Duties

  • Operate and set up drilling machines (single or multiple spindle drill presses) to drill, ream, countersink, spot face, or tap holes according to specifications.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect out-of-tolerance machining and adjust controls as required.
  • Set up and test machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of settings or programmed control data.
  • Identify, disassemble, and determine corrective actions for broken or malfunctioning parts.
  • Check and rework tooling to keep machines running efficiently.
  • Lay out parts for successive and continuous machining operations.
  • Re-sharpen dull drill bits and reamers as needed.

Qualifications

  • Able to read, comprehend, and execute directions from mechanical drawings.
  • Able to measure product dimensions using tools such as rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers to verify conformance to specifications.
