About the role
We are seeking a Dredge Offloader Operator for marine projects in Baltimore and the Richmond, VA area. Must be willing to travel and work 7-day/12-hour shifts with an extended work schedule.
Operates power-driven excavators equipped with movable shovels to excavate or move dirt, rock, sand, and other materials.
Responsibilities
- Receives written or oral instructions from supervisor regarding material to move or excavate.
- Pushes levers and depresses pedals to move machine, lower and push shovel into stockpiled material, dig shovel into surface of ground, and lift, swing, and dump contents of shovel into truck or stockpile in a smooth, controlled manner.
- Works with pipe on utility jobs and safely inside trench boxes.
- Works as needed on bridge jobs, moving or placing materials.
- Observes markings on ground, hand signals, or grade stakes to remove material when operating machine at excavation or utility sites.
- Inspects, cleans, maintains, and lubricates equipment.
- Works in a safe and responsible manner.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions.
- Frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
- Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
- Noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- Construction sites may be isolated or in high traffic areas around other equipment and workers.
- Access and egress to barges, boats, and piers requires ability to do so from moving surfaces due to water motion.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Must regularly work or walk on uneven ground or onboard floating equipment.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Requirements
- Prior experience in the position is required; experience must be commensurate with project requirements (varies by project).
- Minimum four to ten years of related experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Certified or approved by Safety Department, Equipment Manager, or Operations Manager.
- Licensed as required by local jurisdiction (e.g., DC requires operators to be licensed).
- Must pass a practical test.
Pay
Expected base pay range for this position is $39.00/hr - $43.00/hr. This range is specific to the job level and considers factors such as education, experience, licensure, certifications, geographic location, and internal equity.
