Drainage Project Engineer - Team Lead

About the role

This opportunity entails being responsible for the production and modification of design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects. You will consult with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design, and delivery, applying engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects of varying size and complexity. This position is a lead role to direct, mentor, and train junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, adherence to the schedule, and budget on projects.
  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
  • Assists with the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within the discipline.
  • Oversees completeness and accuracy of the project team’s work within the technical discipline; guides and mentors the team to overall project objectives.
  • Coordinates technical aspects of the project with the client counterpart and teaming partners at the staff level for work within the discipline.
  • Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains staff, including development of plans for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession; coordinates schedules and approves timecards.
  • Performs drainage design for transportation projects, including stormwater management facilities, floodplain compensation sites, storm drains, ditches, culverts, bridge hydraulics, and scour analysis.
  • Works in OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D production platforms, and uses technical design software packages (StormWise, HEC-RAS, OpenRoads Designer Drainage).
  • Prepares construction and permitting documents, including reports, plans, and specifications.
  • Leads and manages drainage-related tasks and provides leadership and mentoring to project teams.
  • Participates in project pursuits including presentations, interviews, and technical proposals.
  • Develops scope of services and staff hour estimation for drainage tasks.
  • Performs quality control review of deliverables.
  • Coordinates work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Prepares high-quality deliverables that are on time and within budget and scope.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.

Skills

  • Drainage design for transportation projects, including stormwater management facilities, floodplain compensation sites, storm drains, ditches, culverts, bridge hydraulics, and scour analysis.
  • Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD Civil 3D production platforms.
  • Experience with technical design software packages (StormWise, HEC-RAS, OpenRoads Designer Drainage).
  • Ability to prepare construction and permitting documents, including reports, plans, and specifications.
  • Leadership and mentoring of project teams.
  • Coordination with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
  • Project pursuit participation, including presentations, interviews, and technical proposals.
  • Development of scope of services and staff hour estimation for drainage tasks.
  • Quality control review of deliverables.
  • Effective work planning and design coordination across multiple technical disciplines.

What We Prefer

  • 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida.
