Duties
- Support customer quote development and orders for competitor mill parts by creating and modifying technical drawings, 3D models, and bills of material to support accurate pricing and production.
- Reverse engineer existing components and integrate the data into B&W CAD systems (SolidWorks) to create detail drawings for fabrication.
- Operate 3D Scanner and CMM to obtain and analyze geometric data.
- Develop and maintain detailed assembly, arrangement, and component drawings, ensuring all designs meet specified requirements, tolerances, and company/industry standards.
- Perform quality checks on drawings by verifying dimensions, fits, tolerances, and manufacturability to ensure accuracy before release for quoting, procurement, or production.
- Create and manage part numbers, product structures, and bills of material within internal systems ensuring accurate documentation and traceability of components.
- Prepare and issue bid packages to suppliers, respond to technical inquiries, and coordinate with vendors to support sourcing and manufacturing activities.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Project Management, Business Development, and external suppliers to ensure timely execution of orders and alignment of technical requirements.
- Maintain and track intellectual property and project progress databases for competitor mill parts, ensuring accurate status reporting and documentation.
- Conduct hands-on inspection and measurement of physical parts using traditional tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges) within a shop or warehouse environment to validate dimensions and support reverse engineering efforts.
- Perform material handling and warehouse-related duties, including lifting, moving, and positioning heavy components, supporting warehouse receiving, inspection, and staging for measurement or final shipment.
- Operate or assist with warehouse/shop equipment such as forklifts (where applicable), cranes, etc. to safely transport parts and materials within the service center.
- Support inventory organization and part identification within the service center, ensuring components are properly labeled, tracked, and accessible for engineering and production activities.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, balancing drafting, technical analysis, supplier coordination, and hands-on shop support to meet deadlines and customer needs.
Qualifications
- Average of 4-6 years equivalent hands-on experience in graphics, drafting, or design work (in lieu of a formal degree).
- Specialized training or coursework in CAD software, SolidWorks is preferred.
- Experience in manufacturing processes such as casting, machining, fabrication, and quality assurance practices.
- Ability to create, modify, and validate detailed drawings and 3D models using SolidWorks or similar parametric 3D modeling software.
- Capability to analyze physical components, interpret data, and reproduce accurate designs from existing parts.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, tolerances, and manufacturability aligned with industry standards.
- Proficiency in managing bills of material, part numbers, and technical documentation within internal systems while supporting quoting and order processes.
- Ability to effectively coordinate with project teams, business development, and external suppliers to execute work efficiently.
- Hands-on capability to safely handle, inspect, and manage heavy parts within a warehouse or service center environment.
