Drafter - Substation
About the role
The Drafter - Substation will perform routine substation design assignments, requiring knowledge and skill in basic CAD techniques and procedures. They must have thorough knowledge of CAD standards, materials, and AutoCAD software. This position reports to a Lead Designer and supports substation projects across the QISG platform. Responsibilities include working on design aspects from project inception to completion, utilizing CAD design software for substation design, demonstrating knowledge of quality control procedures, ensuring the highest standards of workmanship, researching information, using the document management system, bringing potential project-related problems and solutions to stakeholders, and performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities

- Research information in catalogs, specifications, corporate standards, or other reference material
- Use the document management system and suggest improvements
- Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of stakeholders
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Absolutely no experience required for an entry-level position in the electric utility industry
- Associates degree in Drafting & Design or equivalent certification is preferred
- Experience in drafting disciplines with a background in substation design is highly preferred
- More experience performing detailed CAD/design for high voltage substation projects could result in a higher pay band
Qualifications
- Word processing, spreadsheet, and email software proficiency
- Extensive knowledge of various CAD programs (AutoCAD preferred)
- Curiosity about and willingness to learn about the major components of a substation
- Basic knowledge of these components is a plus
- Basic oral and written communications skills
- Basic knowledge of the types of drawings required to construct an electrical substation
- Working in a team environment
- Communicating effectively with co-workers
- Able to deal with ambiguity and able to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and determine priorities in a complex environment
