DRAFTER
About the role
The Drafter is responsible for developing engineering drawings following directions of engineer or designer. Has contact with other engineering department personnel regarding ideas, drawings and products, as well as limited external contacts with customers and vendors in the development of designs and problem resolution. Makes various calculations such as strength of materials, weights, simple forces, and stresses, frequently using charts and tables. Uses independent judgment and exercises discretion in executing their duties. This position requires a high degree of confidentiality.
Essential Functions
- Create layouts, assembly and detail drawings for new or improved products.
- Prepare initial drawings on designated test apparatus and monitor design.
- Provide information when required for cost estimating such as blank layouts.
- Analyze various design requirements and recommend possible solutions or alternate constructions. Also prepare and evaluate tolerance stack-ups.
- Perform cost estimating such as blank layouts and processing sketches.
- Calculate accurate bills of materials.
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency in the work produced.
- Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education (or Equivalent Experience)
- A high school education and/or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
- One (1) to two (2) years of college or trade school education in mechanical drawing and/or a related area is helpful.
- Experience with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).
- Well rounded, practical experience may be substituted for formal training.
- Minimum five (5) years of on the job experience.
Skills/Knowledge Required
- Able to move from design concept to finished design including layouts, tolerance valuations and detail drawings.
Work Environment
Generally, will work in an office environment. May work within the plant when necessary.
Physical Demands
May need to lift up to 50 pounds.
Travel
On rare occasion.
