DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain an open conduit of communication between the DPW and other community services of BRC, and coordinate with the ESD and DPW council for radio coverage.
- Manage the overnight radio shifts under the direction of the Dispatch Manager.
- Help set up the dispatch facility.
- Be proactive in assisting city needs.
- Update and keep an accurate record of communications in the Dispatch Operations Logbook as directed by the Dispatch Manager.
- Maintain an open conduit of communication with the Dispatch Manager through direct interface, attending meetings as needed.
- Maintain a clear, professional and constant radio presence as required by the Dispatch Manager.
Other Functions and Responsibilities
- Work with the Team to plan and execute LNT and Waste disposal plans for all relevant operations.
- Adjust workflow to support changing safety protocols as directed.
- Participate in crew meetings when requested and maintain related correspondence.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior experience with radio traffic control and radio technology.
- Experienced and comfortable working overnight shifts.
- A disposition for handling stressful workloads and potential emergency situations in a focused, positive, and calm manner.
- Ability to monitor high-volume radio traffic on multiple channels.
- Clear, concise and professional with strong verbal communication skills ; Able to evaluate the receiving party, tailor communication style, thoughtfully respond to needs for support, and address a broad range of personality types.
- Flexible, able to switch from conversation to conversation quickly and easily without losing the thread.
- Operates with behavioral integrity and discretion of sensitive information; maintains tidiness in work ethics and the work environment.
- Able to receive and integrate feedback into action and maintain an enthusiastic demeanor that inspires by example.
- Strong working knowledge of Google products (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to learn, use, and routinely update any online tools, applications and documents, proactively asking clarifying questions to smooth any process or system as needed.
- Comfortable handling real-time data entry for large amounts of information and managing several streams of communication simultaneously.
- Able to work in an extreme environment including drastic temperature changes, high winds, poor air quality and low to no visibility at times.
- Able to temporarily relocate for work at the Burning Man event held in Gerlach, Nevada
COMPENSATION
Individual compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including prior experience and geographical location. The anticipated rate for this position:
- From August - September is $15.00 to $17.00 per hour.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
On-playa: Work is primarily sedentary but will also include the need to find and meet with department representatives who may not be in the vicinity therefore this could include walking or using some form of transportation. Some of the work will be in outside weather conditions and will be exposed to fumes or airborne particles as well as possible extremes in temperature.
