About the role
This position performs advanced (senior-level) clerical work involving coordinating clerical activities and operating a network of various computer programs. It also involves maintaining and utilizing commercial vehicle safety inspection and violation citation data.
Responsibilities
- Research a variety of directories and queries and use multiple State and Federal databases to identify or create Commercial Vehicle Carrier Profile numbers for Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Inspections and Crashes.
- Verify the accuracy and completeness of the information on CMV Inspections and Crashes, gather data into the relevant databases.
- Review, approve and reconcile Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Inspections and Commercial Motor Vehicle Crashes.
- Prepare, edit, and distribute correspondence, reports, studies, forms and other documents.
- Communicate effectively with field supervisors to initiate corrections on various reports.
- Create, prepare, and calculate a monthly Data Quality Measure report.
- Conduct daily electronic transfers of files through various state and federal databases in accordance with the federal mandate.
- Attend Quarterly Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Safety Data Quality Trainings.
- Review (FMCSA)/ National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Non-Matching Crash reports.
- May provide assistance by answering, taking messages, and routing calls to the correct Motor Carrier Department.
- May process and distribute the department’s daily mail, maintain daily production records, and create or update department job aids and manuals.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma/equivalent.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) years' experience performing high volume complex clerical or data entry activities while operating a personal computer utilizing various applications.
Skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and appropriate levels of proficiency with utilized software and systems.
- Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.

Benefits and Retirement Information
The State of Texas provides benefits and retirement information. Current DPS employees who submit applications for posted DPS positions shall notify their immediate supervisor in writing. A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change. A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary. Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
