Position Summary

We are seeking a Laboratory Scientist who will play a central role in developing, evaluating, and optimizing chemical products used in refinery operations. This position supports both laboratory and field focused initiatives, ensuring that new and existing formulations deliver reliable performance in demanding process environments.

About the Role

This role is based at our Woodlands Laboratory.

Essential Functions

  • Work in laboratory environment wherein chemical and hydrocarbon odors may be present
  • Product Development & Formulation Design: Develop, and optimize chemical formulations for refinery applications (e.g., demulsifiers, fouling control, corrosion inhibition, antifoams, fuel additives, process aids).
  • Conduct bench-scale experiments to evaluate chemical mechanisms, compatibility, and stability.
  • Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and commercial teams to transition new products from concept to commercialization.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of formulation work, experimental design, and development progress.
  • Product Evaluation & Performance Testing: Run and maintain an assortment of laboratory equipment; Perform laboratory testing to assess product performance under simulated refinery conditions (e.g., temperature, pressure, varying feedstock qualities); Conduct root-cause investigations for product failures or performance deviations; Compare new formulations against benchmarks to identify performance advantages.
  • Technical Support for Refinery Operations: Interpret laboratory results to provide technical recommendations for refinery process improvement; Summarize and present technical findings supported by data internally and externally in customer meetings and industry conferences; Support field trials, product dosing optimization, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze experimental data using statistical tools and modeling techniques; Develop test methods and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for product evaluation; Maintain accurate laboratory records and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Safety, Compliance & Quality: Follow all laboratory safety protocols and refinery site requirements; Ensure compliance with environmental, regulatory, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, API); Understand regulatory requirements (REACH, TSCA, SDS authoring); Participate in audits, quality reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
