Downstream Operator-1
About the role
This position requires the employee to perform the responsibilities of the Production Associate. Key responsibilities include ensuring safe and efficient operation of downstream equipment, adhering to lockout/tagout policies, wearing PPE, following GMPs, using utility knives only, participating in safety training, and performing scheduled preventative maintenance and changeovers.
Responsibilities
- Ensure downstream equipment operates safely and efficiently to meet or exceed OEE and quality expectations.
- Follow Lock out / Tag out policy. Wear proper PPE and follow GMPs.
- Proactively address unsafe conditions and report them immediately.
- Participate in safety training and obey machine guards and safety warnings.
- Produce and pack the best quality product at all times.
- Ensure production meets or exceeds customer standards and is properly labeled/tagged.
- Handle non-conforming products and document hold conditions.
- Collect and record quality measurements as needed.
- Complete quality checks and record them in the NWA Quality Monitor or a plant-specific form.
- Obtain and record raw material lot numbers as required.
- Communicate out-of-specification conditions to relevant personnel.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as outlined in the PM program.
- Tag components needing repair, replacement, or improvement.
- Address housekeeping issues on the production floor and equipment.
- Perform scheduled downstream production equipment changeovers.
- Ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently after each changeover.
- Maintain records for the CMMS system and notify Maintenance Manager when parts inventory is low.
- Generate quick tickets for emergency repairs and coordinate with Production Manager for training and development.
- Communicate problems, progress reports, and continuous improvement ideas to management staff, maintenance, and production personnel.
- Promote and participate in good housekeeping habits.
- Perform daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks.
- Sanitize production lines according to company procedures.
- Maintain a clean work area and empty garbage cans at the end of the shift.
- Clean equipment as needed during the shift.
- Organize and maintain clean workstations.
- Document machine or process changes and perform necessary operator checklists.
- Maintain accurate production reporting documentation.
- Participate in plant teams and activities related to safety, quality, sustainability, community involvement, OEE, maintenance, employee wellness, brainstorming, and continuous improvement.
- Establish SMART goals, request regular meetings with managers, volunteer for plant improvement teams, request additional training, seek higher education opportunities, and meet or exceed self-development and performance goals.
Requirements
The ideal candidate should have a high school diploma or GED equivalent, and successfully complete entrance examinations and interviews. They should also possess a sense of urgency, accountability, business ethics, professionalism, self-motivation, and the desire to improve the business.
Qualifications
Experience, educational, and technical qualifications include a strong sense of responsibility, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
Skills
Key skills include safe and efficient operation of downstream equipment, adherence to lockout/tagout policies, proper use of PPE, understanding and following GMPs, proactive safety measures, and effective communication. Proficiency in using utility knives and performing preventative maintenance tasks is also essential.
