Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain customizations for Encompass using C#, VB.NET, and JavaScript for the Encompass Loan Origination System.
  • Build and support REST integrations against Encompass Developer Connect v1 and v3 APIs, including:
    • Loan Management, Pipeline, Loan/Field/Custom Field Schema
    • Documents and Attachments, Users and Organizations
    • Workflow and Task Management, Secondary and Trades, and Services
  • Implement OAuth 2.0 authentication flows and manage API client credentials, token lifecycle, and scope for all integration applications.
  • Replace polling with event-driven design by subscribing to and consuming Encompass webhook resources and events (Loan, Transaction, Trade, Document Delivery and Order, Enhanced Conditions, Organizations and Users, External Users, EPC Service Orders, Schedulers, Workflow Tasks, and Data and Document Automation), including Enhanced Field Change events.
  • Build and maintain webhook listener endpoints with signature validation, retry handling, idempotency, and event-history reconciliation.
  • Develop and maintain Encompass SDK assets still in service (plugins, codebase assemblies, form-based DLLs, and standalone applications such as automated loan and lead creation) and perform SDK version updates in step with each Encompass release.
  • Drive SDK-to-API migration work:
    • Audit current SDK and plugin usage through the Customization Reporting module
    • Identify API alternatives for existing functionality
    • Refactor business logic into API and webhook patterns
    • Retire legacy components on a documented schedule
  • Build Custom Forms, Custom Tools, and Plugins in the Encompass Admin Portal using the Encompass Web Input Form Builder, including JavaScript event handlers (click, change, focusIn, focusOut) written against the ICE scripting framework and the elli.script object model.
  • Develop and support TPO Connect customizations and plugins using the tpoApplication, auth, and loan objects, and support external user provisioning and SSO flows driven by ExternalUser webhook events.
  • Develop proprietary data extracts and warehouse integrations, including building and maintaining a loan data dictionary from the Get Loan Schema, Get Field Schema, and Get Loan Custom Field Settings APIs, and keeping it in sync with each Encompass schema release.
  • Build internal web APIs and services for Encompass consumption, such as a standalone fee calculation engine and calendar-aware date services built on the Compliance Calendar Date Calculator API.
  • Engineer integrations to operate within Encompass API concurrency limits by monitoring concurrency response headers, caching reference data, batching requests, queuing and metering call volume, and implementing exponential back-off to recover from throttling.
  • Build and maintain interfaces to third-party and GSE systems, including underwriting, credit, pricing, and service-ordering partners.
  • Design and document application functionality; produce build and deployment instructions for the release team.
  • Perform peer code reviews to ensure coding standards, performance practices, and security requirements are followed.
  • Author and maintain loan custom fields and custom field calculations, applying correct field modifiers and safe operations, and validating calculation syntax before release.
  • Write and troubleshoot advanced-coded business rules in VB.NET across Field Data Entry, Field Triggers, Milestone Completion, and Loan Form Printing rule types, including Advanced Conditions used to scope when a rule fires.
  • Configure and maintain access-control business rules (Persona Access to Fields, Persona Access to Loans, Loan Folder rules, and Role Access to Documents) and resolve access conflicts across multiple personas, user groups, and overlapping rules.
  • Build and maintain Dynamic Data Management (DDM) scenarios, field rules, and data tables, and use DDM diagnostics to validate rule sequencing and outcomes.
  • Determine the right tool for a given requirement, weighing field calculations against field triggers, DDM rules, plugins, and API-side logic based on performance, maintainability, and where the logic needs to execute.
  • Support persona, user group, role, milestone, and workflow/task template configuration in coordination with the Encompass Administrators.
  • Build and maintain custom input forms with the Input Form Builder, and configure reporting database fields to support reporting and field-level audit requirements.
  • Apply configuration best practices that protect system performance (grouping rules by shared condition, scoping rules with sunrise dates and conditions, and eliminating redundant or unused customizations).
  • Use the System Audit Trail and Analysis Tools to trace setting changes and perform impact analysis on fields before modifying calculations, rules, or forms.
  • Test all customizations and configuration changes in a test environment using a test Client ID before promoting to production, including positive and negative test cases.
  • Perform diagnostic-mode logging to validate business rules, triggers, and calculations, reviewing diagnostic logs for runtime, trigger execution, and recursive execution errors.
  • Review Encompass release notes and analyze and coordinate service packs, critical patches, and version updates with vendors against the customized environment.
  • Provide third-tier production support to Business Systems Analysts, administrators, and deployment staff, and escalate to ICE Mortgage Technology support with detailed problem statements, reproduction steps, and diagnostic logs when required.
  • Analyze production defects, deliver root-cause findings, and implement process and code changes that mitigate future risk.
  • Work directly with business partners to understand needs and provide technical solutions; collaborate with project managers, business stakeholders, and IT to establish project timelines.
  • Foster teamwork and collaboration and communicate effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance the Loan Origination System and organizational effectiveness.
  • Maintain documentation for customizations, integrations, business rules, and configuration decisions as a long-term management solution.
  • Complete special tasks as assigned by manager as needed.
  • Regular on-site attendance.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of C#, VB.NET, Visual Studio, and JavaScript development experience.
  • 2+ years of Encompass development experience, including hands-on work with the Encompass SDK and/or Encompass Developer Connect APIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and consume RESTful APIs with JSON, including OAuth 2.0 authentication, error and status code handling, and rate/concurrency limit management; proficiency testing APIs in Postman.
  • Working knowledge of Encompass administration in the areas closest to code: loan custom fields and calculations, business rule advanced coding, personas and user groups, and input forms.
  • Ability to read and write VB.NET for Encompass business rule advanced conditions and advanced coding.
  • SQL and relational database experience sufficient to build data extracts and support data warehouse integration.
  • Understanding of the mortgage industry, including the life cycle of a loan, loan products, and lending policies.
  • Ability to test methodically in a controlled environment, document what was built, and support what was released.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ICE Mortgage Technology Encompass Developer certification (Developer Essentials) and/or Encompass Certified Administrator.
  • 2+ years of mortgage lending experience.
  • Experience with the broader ICE Mortgage Technology product family (Encompass SDK, Encompass Developer Connect, TPO Connect, Loan Officer Connect, Consumer Connect, Encompass Docs Solution / eClose, Velocify, Mavent) and third-party platforms such as Optimal Blue.
  • Experience migrating legacy SDK applications and plugins to cloud-native API and webhook architectures.
  • Experience with Dynamic Data Management (DDM) rules and data tables.
  • Experience with source control, CI/CD, and release management practices in a regulated environment.
